For the average Algarve tourist, the prime focus on their attention is the Algarve's fine beaches and Faro and its surrounding areas are famous for. Fara and the area in essence one great big sand dune– a sand dune that has been split from the mainland in places, that is open t the sea in other spots, while home to large lagoons in others. You can choose from white sandy beaches that practically sink beneath the influx of bathers or other more secluded stretches of sand. You can choose to take water taxies or ferries to off shore Armona, Culatra and Farol from the town of Olhão. You may choose to send time on some on the islands. The Ilha de Faro for example is connected to the mainland by road, is a little of the well-trodden tourist track, features lots of sand, some beach house and pleasant restaurants. The Ilha de Barrea is worth the initiative spent to reach it – it has no regular ferry connections. It is ideal for the traveler who has their own boat or has hired one, as there are relatively few holidaymakers to leave you largely undisturbed. The Ilha do Farol chief attraction is just clean white sand, that noting really else. |
