Hotels tend to have excellent pools (including children friendly areas) and there are plenty of beaches to choose from, so the visitor who likes combining sun and water is well catered for. However, even the most world class of beaches may not satisfy the younger visitor's need for variety and entertainment. This is where the theme parks come in. Many visitors like to spend some holiday time in one of the various theme parks that either surround Faro or are within reasonable drive of it. The constant sunshine means that cooling water forms an integral part of many parks. Zoomarine is but one such park. This aqua park is just outside the town of Albufeira and contains a wide range of attractions. Visitors can watch the dolphin shows, seals, sea lions and more. There are the usual family oriented attractions you can expect in such a theme park – small pools for children to paddle in, ice cream, cafes, restaurants and various organized family friendly activities. Aqualand in Alcantarilha is another resort for those with a taste for aquatic action. This adventure theme park is the biggest in Portugal and contains a wave pool, flying carpet, raging rapids, kamikaze rides and more. |
